Different Carpet Repairs Explained
Patch Repairs
A patch repair involves cutting out and removing the damaged area. A new, matching piece of carpet is inserted to the damaged area.
Patch repairs are glued from the back and to the existing carpet, ensuring any movement in the carpet will not create a visible joint.
If you don't have a spare piece of carpet - no problem, we carry 1,000's of offcuts to match in.
Re-Tufting and Re-threading
RETUFTING involves removing the damaged fibres carefully without damaging or disturbing the carpet’s backing.
Common repairs include cigarette burns where only a small section of carpet is damaged, usually the size of a 1p coin. Larger areas will require a patch repair.
RETHREADING usually occurs with loop pile carpets. The thread is a continuous strip across the width of the carpet. The most common cause of thread damage is cats clicking at the loops or vacuum damage - the vacuum can catch a loose thread and pull out a longer section - eventually snapping the thread.
Permanent Spills and Stains
PERMANENT SPILLS AND STAINS: A very common repair involves spilled paint. Bleach is also an issue, but not as much now due to most modern carpets made from man made materials and are bleach safe. Wool and nylon carpets are mostly affected by bleach damage.
The only option for this type of repair is to patch repair. This is done by cutting out the damaged carpet and inserting a matching piece.
